Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and SuperCatch for using the SuperCatch app and website. They are written in plain English. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use SuperCatch.
1. Who we are
SuperCatch is a service built and operated in New Zealand. In these terms "SuperCatch", "we" and "us" mean the operator of SuperCatch; "you" means the person using it. You can reach us at support@supercatch.co.nz.
2. The service
SuperCatch shows ocean and weather data for fishing - sea temperature, chloro, sea height, wind, current - over a marine chart in New Zealand waters (the chart covers New Zealand only), and lets you keep a catch log with the conditions recorded at the time of each catch. It covers New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific from Lord Howe to Fiji. It runs in a web browser at supercatch.co.nz, where it can be added to your home screen, and as an iPhone app (iOS 26 or later) - during testing the iPhone app is offered through Apple's TestFlight.
We add, improve and sometimes retire layers and features as data sources and the product change. We will not remove a core part of a paid plan without telling you first.
3. Your account
- You need an account and a plan to use SuperCatch, the chart included.
- Give us a real email address you can receive mail at, and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us straight away at support@supercatch.co.nz if you think someone else has used your account.
- You must be at least 16 to hold an account, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
4. Plans and billing
- Buying plans is not open yet. During testing, plans are switched on by us at no charge - for example the free plans given to fishing clubs. Nothing is charged for a plan given this way. The rest of this section applies once buying opens.
- There are two plans, bought by the calendar month and paid for upfront in New Zealand dollars, GST inclusive: Chart at NZ$5.00 a month, or NZ$40.00 for twelve Chart months bought together, and Ocean at NZ$14.95 a month for November to April and NZ$10.00 a month for May to October. A month's price is set by the month itself, whenever it is bought. Ocean includes everything in Chart. What each plan includes is listed on the pricing section of our website.
- The chart covers New Zealand waters only. The charted depths, contours, coastline detail and hazards come from LINZ and cover New Zealand and nothing else. Outside New Zealand the Chart plan includes no marine chart. The Ocean plan's layers (sea temperature, chloro, fronts, swell, wind and current) cover New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific from Lord Howe to Fiji. Chloro Day is New Zealand only, and SST Stable stops at 180° - it does not reach the Lau Group.
- You choose the months, this month and up to twelve months ahead, and pay for them in one payment. Nothing renews and you are not charged again unless you buy more months.
- A month runs from 00:00 on the 1st, New Zealand time, until 00:00 on the 1st of the next month, Perth time. The current month costs the full month's price whatever the date you buy it; the app tells you how many days are left before you pay.
- Free trial. Once buying opens, a new account gets 14 days of Ocean free once its email address is verified. No card is needed and nothing is charged when it ends. There is one trial per email address.
- Refunds. A month that has not started can be refunded in full from Settings in the app on the web, to the card it was paid with. A month that has started cannot be refunded, except where the law requires otherwise (see your consumer rights).
- Payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. SuperCatch never stores your card details.
- We may change our prices for months not yet bought. A month you have already paid for keeps the price you paid.
5. Not for navigation - and your safety
SuperCatch is not a navigation aid. Do not use it to navigate, to avoid hazards, or to decide whether it is safe to go to sea.
- The conditions shown come from satellites and computer models. They can be wrong, incomplete, or late, and the real sea and weather can differ from them.
- Depths, contours, hazards and tide predictions are approximate. They are not official nautical charts or official tide tables. Use official charts, official tide tables, current forecasts and warnings, and your own instruments.
- The skipper is responsible for the safety of the vessel and everyone on it, and for every decision made on the water.
6. Fishing rules
SuperCatch shows fishing rules, marine reserves and protected areas as a guide. Rules and boundaries change, and what we display may be out of date or incomplete. The regulations published by the relevant authority are what count, and you are responsible for fishing within them.
7. Acceptable use
Use SuperCatch for your own fishing and planning. You must not:
- scrape, bulk-download, copy or resell the data, maps or layers, or build another product or service from them;
- reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code, or get around plan limits, padlocks or security;
- share your account or log-in with people outside your household;
- overload, disrupt or attack the service, or use automated tools against it;
- use Crew or any shared feature to harass, abuse or mislead other people, or to post unlawful content;
- use SuperCatch in breach of any law.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
8. Your content
- Your catches, photos, notes, voice recordings and trips stay yours.
- You give us a licence to store, copy, process and display them as needed to run SuperCatch for you - for example syncing them to your devices, showing them to Crew members you choose to share with, and producing your data download.
- Position sharing is off by default. How positions and conditions are handled, and how shared positions are used, is set out in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
- Only upload content you have the right to share.
9. Third-party data
Much of what SuperCatch shows comes from public and scientific data providers, including Himawari-9 via JAXA, the E.U. Copernicus Marine Service and Copernicus Sentinel data (ESA / EUMETSAT), ECMWF, NASA JPL, Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), NIWA, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and IMOS, NESP, Transport WA, NOAA, GEBCO, IMAS and OpenStreetMap contributors. Each is used under its own licence and credited in the app's Data sources sheet. Those providers give no warranty for their data, and nor do we on their behalf. Their licences continue to apply to their data.
10. Availability
We work to keep SuperCatch running and its data current, but we cannot promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. Data sources have outages, satellites miss passes, and we sometimes need maintenance time. Offline packs let you keep parts of the map on your device for use without signal.
11. Liability
To the extent the law allows:
- SuperCatch is provided "as is", and we give no warranty that the data is accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose;
- we are not liable for any loss, damage, injury or cost arising from relying on the data, from decisions made on the water, from a catch or lack of one, or from the service being unavailable;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or opportunity; and
- our total liability to you for anything connected with SuperCatch is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Your consumer rights
If you are a consumer in New Zealand, you have rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 that these terms do not take away. Nothing in these terms limits those rights, and the exclusions and limits in section 11 apply only as far as those Acts allow. If you use SuperCatch for the purposes of a business, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, to the extent the law allows.
If you are in Australia or elsewhere, you may have rights under your local consumer law that cannot be excluded, and these terms do not take them away.
13. Ending the agreement
- You can stop using SuperCatch at any time - plans are bought by the month and nothing renews, so there is nothing to cancel. To delete your account and data, email support@supercatch.co.nz - see the privacy policy.
- We may suspend or end your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop providing SuperCatch. Where we end the service without fault on your part, we will give you reasonable notice and refund any unused part of a period you have paid for.
- Sections 5, 6, 8, 11, 12 and 15 continue after the agreement ends.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as SuperCatch changes. The date at the top shows the current version. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using SuperCatch after that means you accept the new terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the courts of New Zealand have jurisdiction over any dispute. We would always rather sort a problem out directly first - please get in touch.
